Best Business to Start

What is the best business to start? These are truly tough times as we often hear stories about recessions, company closings, and layoffs. As a result, many people are deciding to take control. However, for anyone looking to start a business of his/her own, the question at the start of this article is very important.

What IS The Best Business to Start?

As I have stated, these are tough economic times. So, before getting started, one of the things that must be considered is what the best business to start is in the current market? Even to this, the response could be very different based upon the person asking and your:

  • Background
  • Desires
  • Location
  • Work Ethic
  • And more!

Your Background There may be skills you have developed or learned over your life that could help you. For example, you may be perfectly suited to have a business giving fishing tours if you grew up around the water all your life where weekends fishing were a regular occurrence.

Your Desires: Perhaps you have always desired to help a lot of people, or you have always wanted to travel around the world. For you, the best business to start is that which allows you to make these desires a part of your life.

Your Location: You wouldn’t want to open an outdoor ice skating rink if you live on the equator. However, an ice cold drink stand might work a lot better. You will want to consider where you will operate this business as you are making a decision on the best business to start for you.

Work Ethic: Do you have the work ethic to consistently put in a high level of effort, especially in an unsupervised role? Or, are you better suited for a relaxed snorkel and scuba rental on a laid back Caribbean island? (No worries, mon.) You will want to know how much you’re willing to put in “at the office” as you make your decision.

This list only represents some of the major things one needs to consider as you explore launching out on your own. You should also not limit your search to the “traditional” business model that you’ve always seen.

Why I Think is the Best Business to Start

I got my start in Corporate America. My upbringing was much like most other people. My parents always told me to go to school, focus on my studies and get good grades. This would allow me to go to college. If I continued the trend, I would be able to graduate from college one day and get a good job. And, guess what? The job brought good benefits!

All of this happened for me. I had made it. I accomplished everything my parents had told me I would if I followed the plan. I also worked long hours (my interviewer even told me to expect to work at least 50 hours per week), had to travel (sometimes to places on the map I didn’t even know existed) and had to deal with the Corporate environment (office politics, racism, sexism, nepotism… you name it).

I actually made a good career for myself. Eventually, I grew weary of missing the important things in life (first steps, my children’s events, quality time with my wife). I started a real estate business, which was profitable, at least, until the real estate bubble popped. I researched some franchises, but didn’t like the up-front investment. It was then that I was exposed to a different business model.

Incredibly driven, the industry has allowed me to define success for myself. Background is irrelevant in our industry. No matter your desires, you can pursue them in our industry. You can live in a desert and still succeed. And, most people work a few hours a week on a part-time basis.

Especially in this market, our industry makes more sense now than ever. If you would like more information, feel free to visit my page to get details. I would love to share more with you what I have found to be the best business to start.
